Artist Statement
Sometimes the only words we have are body language. I fell in love with the idea that our bodies become repositories for every emotion we’ve ever felt. It’s stored in our cells and can even lead to illness if not released. My work is that release. I want to explore complex human emotions through expressive body poses, immersed in an environment shaped by those emotions. I desire to evoke the beauty of what makes us human - love, ecstasy, sorrow, and everything in between. Why charcoals? As much as we want life to be black and white, we live in the grey. Much like the figure is the focal point, the interesting part, the emotion, and the motion happen where the light and the shadows meet, and the space between.
